Environmental care is one of Rolear biggest concerns not only in our business but also in our internal management.
We proudly undertake that responsibility by strongly committing in protecting natural resources, specially regarding a possible impact of our activities. In addition to the ecologically correct procedures we daily maintain, Rolear Group constantly seeks solutions that can be more effective and ecological.
Thus, we have been strongly focused on an environmental strategy and in an effective response within our areas of operation.
Acting towards this real concern, we are members of Amb3E, the Portuguese Association for the Management of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, and Sociedade Ponto Verde, a private, non-profit entity that promotes the selective collection, recovery and recycling of waste packaging at national level.
At Grupo Rolear, a range of recycling measures is in place to minimise environmental impacts and ensure the proper management and routing of all waste generated by our operations.
We separate, containerise and guarantee the appropriate transport of materials to authorised waste-management operators, to whom we deliver all residues that cannot be reused.
In the management of electrical and electronic waste, batteries and packaging, Rolear is an accredited member of Electrão and Sociedade Ponto Verde, fulfilling its obligations as a responsible producer.
WEEE – Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment
At Rolear, we generate various types of waste of this nature as a result of our daily operations.
But what exactly are the types of waste that must follow the WEEE recycling stream?
Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) refers to equipment that depends on electric current or electromagnetic fields to function correctly, as well as equipment used for the generation, transfer or measurement of such currents and fields. It includes products designed for use with a nominal voltage not exceeding 1000 V for alternating current and 1500 V for direct current.
At Rolear, we ensure the proper handling and routing of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) we produce.
To achieve this, we separate, containerise and guarantee the transport of waste to authorised waste management operators.
We are also members of Electrão, within the scope of the integrated management of electrical and electronic equipment waste.
Electrical equipment is the waste stream with the highest annual growth rate.
At Rolear, we actively promote recycling and contribute to a more circular economy.
Every small action counts towards increasing recycling, supporting decarbonisation and protecting the environment.
Recycling Batteries and Accumulators
Batteries contain valuable resources but are also highly polluting and must be
recycled correctly to prevent environmental contamination. To reinforce this responsibility across society, the new European Battery Regulation assigns distributors the obligation to ensure the proper collection and return of these waste materials.
Used batteries are 99% recyclable. These must not be disposed of with general waste or stored at home; instead, they should be delivered to appropriate collection points.
At Rolear Mais stores, dedicated collection points are available for customers to deposit used batteries and accumulators, ensuring their correct waste management. This process enables the recovery and reintegration of raw materials, such as lithium, cobalt, steel, and nickel, into the value chain, avoiding their direct extraction from nature. It also prevents the release of toxic metals, including mercury, lead, and cadmium, which pose risks to human health and ecosystems.
Choosing rechargeable batteries instead of alkaline ones is also an environmentally responsible practice, as they can be recharged at least 500 times.
